Shale Gas Plays in the US Lower 48

Above you see the US Energy Information Administration's map for shale gas plays in the 48 contiguous US States.

Below, you see T. Boone Pickens' map for shale plays. The circled areas are thought to be particularly rich.

Shale gas and coal bed gas discoveries have shaken international energy markets. It is likely that the shaking has just begun.

Note that North Dakota is not even considered among the richest finds, according to Pickens' map.  That is interesting given that North Dakota's vast new shale energy wealth has allowed it to weather the ongoing US recession with aplomb.   We can only hope that North Dakota's good fortune will fall to at least some of the states above that contain those golden circles and ovals.
